Besides being out and about supporting Dementia awareness week, we also did our own in house Dementia training. Staff and Relatives were encouraged to put on specially adapted goggles, ear defenders and gardening gloves to give the feeling of a patient with Dementia.
They were then invited to do basic daily living activities like putting on a jumper, doing up a button, laying a table, walking round a room and reading a paper. All our ‘guinea pigs’ said they had a feeling of isolation, fear and lack of confidence. We showed them that by simple acts of caring and reassurance we could make their world a much better place to live in and make them feel secure and safe. Seen here are Activities Co ordinator Nikki Shaw and Catering Manager Helen Bryne feeling and seeing what it is like to be assisted with a desert if you have Dementia.
Wednesday, Ann & Nikki joined up with Bluebird Care in Bayston Hill for their Dementia Awareness day.
